1.      Use a checklist for packing. We have plenty of places to shop in case you do forget something, but that can be a hassle when you’re on vacation. Here’s a list of what we suggest to bring.

2.      Ask a friend to house to check in on your house occasionally. Give them a key, dates you’ll be gone, and your contact information. Remember to ask them to check your mail and grab your newspaper too so it won’t look like no one is home! 

3.      Set up automatic light timers throughout your house so that no stranger will know you’re on an OBX vacation.

4.      Turn off and unplug all of your electrical appliances and equipment for safety and your peace of mind. Remember to turn off the oven and stove, lights that don’t have a timer, computers and office equipment, televisions, fans and plug in heaters.

5.      Adjust your thermostat. You’ll save money by using our Spring Break Special, but save even more by keeping your gas and electric bill in check while you’re away.
